Award-winning artist and songwriter Nicole Ariana had a glorious 2022, capping it with the prestigious SOCAN Songwriter and Electronic Artist of the Year award and a nomination for R&B and soul Recording of the Year and Music Video of the Year for her song "Master of Denial" for the 2023 East Coast Music Awards. She is definitely coasting to victory with more than a handful of songwriting credits on her belt and a new song "Shameless" with an accompanying video.
"Shameless" sees Nicole teaming with renowned Halifax songwriter and producer Breagh Isabel who helps create the most befitting backdrop for her. The moody textures, cinematic key progression and soft drums help solidify the foundation for Nicole's distinct melodic runs that slowly rises to a plateau as the track moves along. Nicole dives into the darkest part of a relationship turned sour and looks at how holding on to something that is slowly withering away can be detrimental. She gives listeners a clear and candid view of things as she sings "Kissing you is cold/ I am hot to hold" with an icy cold demeanour.
The video is directed by Griffin O'Toole, with cinematography by Andrew Rhodenizer, and stars Nicole Ariana and Cory Urquhart who plays her ex. Viewers follow her travails through colourful flashbacks that return to a grim moody present where she is beset by set pieces covered in plastic alluding to the past she shared with her ex.
"Shameless" is the opening track on Ariana's ECMA-nominated debut album CRYBABY.
