Italian-born, London based singer songwriter Alice Pisano has just unveiled her sophomore EP, Shattered But Still Cool. The new five-track release sees the artist opening up about her own experiences with love, peeling back the layers and she reveals some of her most vulnerable moments.
The EP follows Pisano on her journey through love, from dating apps, and finding connections on dates, to actually beginning to fall for someone. The very real, raw and honest release, also shows the negative sides to love, such as discovering your partner was cheating. Not afraid to bare it all, the new EP is like reading the pages of Pisano’s own journal.
The EP starts off with “Boys Like You,” the beginning of Pisano’s dating experience, and the ups and downs of dating apps. Pisano explains, “The day we wrote the song, I remember feeling pretty disheartened about it. It can be tough to deal with failed dates and behaviours like ghosting, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking you’re not good enough, or pretty or fun enough… talking to my friends though, it became pretty clear they were having the same experience.”
“Ink” details the period of dating where your belly is full of butterflies and you can’t help but feel totally infatuated with someone. Pisano mirrors that feeling within the song with infectious melodies and a dance worthy beat that you can’t help but move to.
“Where My Heart Is,” touches on how a sudden surge of strong emotions can sometimes be unsettling. Discovering feelings that you haven’t felt before, and learning new things about yourself, the songwriter confides, ”It's not always easy to let your guard down when dating, especially if you've been disappointed before.”
Ending up at “Pretty Girls,” which despite sonically being upbeat and buoyant, it actually details the downfall of a relationship. Pisano shares, “I was dating someone who seemed very smitten and in love, only to discover he was actually dating other girls at the same time. I was furious when I wrote this song and it was very liberating!”
Covering all stages of a relationship, Pisano has created a truly relatable EP and something that we can all resonate with. Emanating an iridescent aura, the dazzling new release is some of Pisano’s best work to date.
