Bristol-raised alt-pop and future soul songwriter China Bowls moved to London to advance her career and hasn't looked back since. After experimenting with different styles, she finally found her own sound which blends contemporary pop with r&b styling.
Her latest record "First Light", dives into the concept of taking that bold step into the first light away from the craziness of toxic love and sees her teaming up with the production team Upcycled Sounds (feeo, Pecq), who help craft the perfect sonic canvas for her to paint over. China Bowl explores the dynamics of a toxic relationship and the many poisonous elements that accumulate over time ranging from gaslighting, manipulation and denial.
She runs through these delicate issues and offers hope in the form of the first light that one must step into regardless of how difficult things can be. The production is made up of rich layered guitar riffs, warm keys and soothing basslines peppered by rousing drums in the chorus section. All these form the foundation for China Bowls' commanding vocal performance that includes sultry melodic runs, lilting cadences and sublime harmonies that rise to a plateau as the song grows.
