Rising Côte d'Ivoire-based DJ Jeune Lio first popped up on our radar with his sexy dancefloor banger "Sexy girl from Abidjan" a while back and now he returns with a 3-track collaborative EP with Magasco. Entitled Love in Transition, the short body of work explores the dynamics of entering a new relationship while the emotions from the last one are still lingering like rusty anchors under the sea bed. The duo fuse their respective experiences with this thing called love and pour it all on the EP. The EP starts with the smooth guitar/horn-driven "Lady" where desire meets wishful thinking, detailing the need to be close to that special one you want. Magasco doesn't hold back and pours adulations on this mysterious lady who has him mesmerized.
This is followed by "Njoka", a mellow and sombre track that sees the singer reflecting as he balances confusion and hesitation as this love blossoms into a new phase with his thoughts still stuck on his ex. The production here is magnificent and ethereal with layered textures, airy pads underpinned by Magasco candid lyrics and sultry melodic runs. The project closes out with Strawberry" which is a collaboration with Iguocho and continues the love theme with a focus on being vulnerable, intimate and confessing one's true desire to a new partner. Both Magasco and Iguocho's vocals complement each other with the former's deep runs contrasting with the former's sensual whispered vocals.
In summary, the EP sounds off on the sentiments of a hopeless romantic, capturing the joys and tragedies of love that is as intentional as it is wild.
