"Indie Pop" as a genre can mean many different things. While Lostboycrow might not be known for working within this genre, the singer-songwriter nails the assignment and presents a chromatic new project, Indie Pop.
Sweet and tangy, Indie Pop makes a perfect soundtrack for driving with your windows down, or dancing like no one's watching with your best friend. By nature, the well-structured, instrumental-focused album will undoubtedly become highlights for Lostboycrow's future live shows. Tracks like "Chewed Up" and "Angelina" soar with nonchalant thrills, while slower, melancholic ballads like "Coffee Drugs" sway like a lively mountain stream.
The mind behind the artist alias, Chris Blair never limits himself to one particular genre. Prior to Indie Pop, his songwriting feels mostly folk rock, the production of his songs sprinkled with electro beats and dreamy synth, but sometimes there are moments of r&b and soul as well. A collaboration with producer Chris Chu, it comes as a surprise that the new project hones in on one specific genre. But acoustic guitar and live drum suits Blair's magnetic, soothing vocal in an ever so gentle way, granting Indie Pop a cohesive flow like no other.
"Indie Pop has begun to feel like coming home to a room full of loved ones you hadn’t seen in so long, you were afraid you might have dreamt their very existence," says Blair on the album, "Being able to watch people slowly step into this world through the singles, videos, and shows this past tour has filled that familiar space I wanted so badly to be real when I started writing. A sound and a vision that has not only shaped me into what I am now, but is the beginning of what I wanted to be all along."
