Lower East Side Manhattan hip-hop act Dren Starr has carved out a space in the industry as a music mogul, with three decades of experience seeing him assume various roles from DJ and produce to promoter, recording engineer, tour and artist manager.

Having begun his career as a DJ aged only 14, Starr quickly built himself up through hip-hop radio station WBAD Radio 91.9 FM, giving many rising artists a platform to showcase their sonic talents.

From ruling radio to opening Pirate Recording Studio, one of the first official studios on the Lower East Side of Manhattan to cementing working relationships with tops names in the industry, Starr who has always stayed connected to the music in some way or other soon gained momentum in his own music career.

Though he faced a pause in his ambitions after serving a five-and-a-half-year sentence in New York State prison for gun possession, Starr found himself coming straight back to resume his musical journey upon release.Learning to adapt to social media and music in the digital age, Starr continues to expand his space not just with the raw talent and heartfelt musicality, but with his ability to constantly evolve as he leaves us excited for what’s to come from him.
