Psychedelic hip-hop supergroup and flagship artists of the ŌFFKILTR circle, Clouds in a Headlock are carving their own path with their style of nonconformist musical style. With GT Lovecraft, Doctor Outer, Èph on the microphone and Runway 45 (RHINO and Daylight Robbery! on the beats, The Ghost in the Machine on effects and sonic sprinkles, the crew team up for their debut LP entitled Breakfast in Phantasia, a 12 track body of work that is inspired by the early works of Souls of Mischief, Company Flow, and the poetry of Arthur Rimbaud.
From the cryptic introduction "Raw Suede" to the summer-tinged "Phantasia", the crew gives a wide range of styles that change at their beck and call. This is followed by "Another Summer" and "The Clouds", the former has a 70s psychedelic soulful vibe while the latter is as dark and eerie as they come. Both tracks are underpinned by the crew's wild and outlandish rhyme schemes filled with wordplay, weird humour and multi-layered vocal samples to complete the mission.
Overall, there is much to unpack and with each listen, we can peel back the layers as we dive deep into the dynamic production and off-kilter raps that take precedence throughout the project.
To coincide with the release of their debut LP Breakfast in Phantasia, the crew presents the Mr Blønde-directed visuals for, "PHANTASIA." Rich colourful rhymes by emcees Doctor Outer, Lovecraft and Éph combine with mellow jazzed-out Rhodes and raw drum breaks courtesy of production duo, Runway 45.
