North Carolina-based MC and founder of the award-winning hip-hop collective Free The Optimus (FTO) C.Shreve the Professor is back with a new single "The Challenge" and also preparing for a new tour so the man is busy as a beaver. The track is the newest collaboration with UK-based producer ILe Flottante who gifts him with a sombre and soulful backdrop made up of low piano keys, warm textures and punchy boom-bap drums to boot. C.Shreve the Professor proceeds to share his unfiltered thoughts as he runs through different topics ranging from self-awareness to jealousy and then some. Lyrics like 'On the fence again, the grass looking greener/I sense the green-eyed monster inside your demeanour/if they want what you got and there's not 2 spots/They gonna take what they want and leave you with the Oo-wop" shows his concern for snakes and fake friends who do underhanded things. He also takes time to reflect on the way we are living and the dynamics of reaching one's goals in these crazy times.
"The Challenge" is taken from C.Shreve the Professor and ILe Flottante 's forthcoming album, which will be released in 2023. ILe Flottante also made the leap this fall and booked a flight to NYC which snowballed into a 15-date U.S. tour, including a 5-date run around North Carolina with C.Shreve (starting 11/22).
