King Isis is a self-proclaimed "punk rock fairy exxe grll" who has steadily been building a following through their tasteful collection of covers & original compositions on TikTok & Youtube. The Oakland native repurposes her years of classical training in order to explore a distinct sound that blends aspects of indie rock, blues, grunge, & soul paired with highly vulnerable songwriting.
After relocating to Los Angeles, Isis has now signed to No Matter/ Dirty Hit Records and has finally surfaced with an official debut single entitled "4leaf clover." Accompanied by an effectively simple visual directed by Cedric Crisologo, the song is an acoustic ballad that chronicles Isis' struggles with complacency, depression, & writer's block:
“I wrote "4leaf clover" when I was in a creatively depleted place. I wanted to get out of this loop. I was stuck in a cycle of numbing myself, moving on auto-pilot, not really living but just going with the motions. I wrote this to get out of that reality and get out of my head."
The track and video both showcase why Isis is such a promising talent. With a bare-bones composition consisting with nothing more than her emotive vocals & her acoustic guitar, she is able to convey so much vulnerability & effectively turn the recording into an intimate jam session.
It’s kind of a free-write and note to self. All my songs start as acoustic shells with myself in a room with the guitar, pen and paper. We recorded this in one take as a capsule of the actual moment. "4leaf clover" is a song that I wrote in the dark to make room for the light, and can hopefully be there for others in those moments as well.” – King Isis
