Chicago rapper Blvck Svm has shared a new project called mangalica mink. Following up his previous release, the atmospheric collaborative project with Sebastian Kamae titled fiftypercentgratuity, mangalica mink- featuring Valee and Isaac Zale– continues his run of sleek, laid-back releases. Svm is a wordsmith in many respective realms, and in just seven cuts we hear him deliver cool, calm, and collected cadences to showcase his sharp lyrical skills.
mangalica mink employs a stylish, relaxed sound that appears to draw some influence from cloud rap, while Svm keeps things lyrically focused throughout. The silvery sonics and infectious bounce of opener “tarragonbutter” sets the tone smoothly, before songs like “kith” featuring Valee, and “pyrex” featuring Sheri A, take on a more ominous tone with creeping, immersive keys. A project highlight is “retinalscan” featuring Isaac Zale, which contains shimmering keys drifting atop bouncy 808s and clean percussion, setting a strong foundation for Svm and Zale’s focused flows.
Mangalica Mink’s engagingly mercurial sound and sharply-crafted lyricism make it a memorable new project from the Chicago artist overall.
