Cat Burns gives silky rendition of an Estelle classic

UK songwriter Cat Burns puts a dreamy, ethereal twist on a classic, with her new cover of Estelle's "American Boy"

Upon first listen, the slow and glistening rendition of the era-defining Estelle single differs too much to match the same energy and mood of the original song, but it does not waste time fulfilling the same elements that made the original so enjoyable.

In the same month as releasing her latest two bodies of art "people pleaser" & "sleep at night", UK-based singer and songwriter Cat Burns has reached a milestone worthy of talk with this new single. The Streatham talent takes a stab at redefining the American banger while paying homage to another English talent, the musical titan Estelle. Not only does Burns redefine a 2000s pop classic, but she also engages with a tune that perfectly flaunts her musical inspirations while signifying her craft in transmuting classics into her own. An alchemist at work.

The single is the result of Burns becoming the latest in Spotify's pool of RADAR Global Artists.

Burns ditches the funky synths and verses from that one guy for something more stripped down and aligned with her style, sacrificing fast-paced grooves for a sound uniquely dreamy and isolated in its execution. As the club rave-inspired beat withers away and dies, a slow jam, focused in tone and atmosphere takes shape.

The Burns rendition is powerful, utilizing the dreamy keys and guitar rift to accompany the singer's silky vocals. What starts off as a slow burn gradually transcends to a neo-soul joint incorporating luscious keys in tandem with beautiful vocal harmonies. Where Burns's vocals take center stage, the singer fleshes out the keys as the lead role, coming to a peaceful and satisfying end.

Evolving from Tik Tok fame to Spotify exclusive releasing artist, Cat Burns sets the bar for other artists her age on how to elevate craft and stardom with optimal effort.
