Vancouver native and singer-songwriter, Kaleah Lee has released her third single, "Anchored." The track is the first to follow this summer's "Heavy Handed" which she described as "sort of like an ode to journaling." The single built her momentum on streaming platforms, as its early buzz has seen Kaleah amass over 8 million views and 65k followers on TikTok via covers and her own original music and videos she writes and produces herself. She has even received co-signs from some of her musical inspirations like Taylor Swift, Maggie Rogers, Bon Iver, and Gracie Abrams.
"Anchored", co-produced with Gabe Goodman, channels a good balance of afternoon naps and sharp anxiety with lines like "what if I'll never leave my home town?" The opening guitar tones remind of a tumbleweed scraping along, finding itself equally uncertain of its future. Through this malaise, Kaleah finds another strong vocal performance, both breathy and present and reminiscent of Phoebe Bridgers in some moments. Her vocals wax and wane, shifting into and out of runs, resembling the depth of her writing style and layers there to be unpacked.
Lee here has proven again that she has a lot on her mind. Make sure to stay up to date with her upcoming 2023 debut EP release and other future releases via the links below.
