5-piece, Phoenix, Arizona-based band Herbert Walker have returned with a vibrant new single "Up Down", which has been taken from their upcoming album How To Enjoy. The band has crafted a unique sound by blending together different inspirations whilst gluing genres together. The result is a melting pot of jazz, pop and freak folk, all tinged with a nod to indie-rock. Since the band’s inception in 2016, they’ve been crafting this sound, hopefully inspiring young creatives to bash down genre barriers and make music that truly represents themselves.
"Up Down" is a vibrant and irresistible new single. Texturally jam packed, the track has strong foundations with drums that cut through the mix, creating a groove that will get you out of your seat and dancing. Piano, saxophone and wind instruments ebb and flow between each other, creating swirling melodies that reverberate around the mix. Vocals are laid on top, infectious but tinged with poetic lyricism that will entice you in even further.
Speaking about the single, the band explain: “Up Down is about horror and banality and American life. To us, it is about childhood and escape and acceptance.”
The bands musical freedom is something to be admired and has landed them attention from all corners of the music industry. Pop-punk band Joyce Manor and anti-folk cult hero Jeffrey Lewis are a couple of names they’ve played alongside. Codependency, mental illness, materialism are all discussed within their lyrics, providing a space for their audience to find solace in. With coverage across a whole host of tastemaker music magazines, the band are once again showcasing their unique talents, aiming to take their music to the next level.
