Bay Area rapper and producer Chow Mane drops larger than life party soundtrack Sun Up To Sundown, a 10-track album that channels inspirations from pop culture and rave music weaving popular music in Japan, China and Korea together with a west coast production for a seamless east meets west sonic fusion.
Opening with vibrant, tropical feels on “Sun Up,” before moving into the glitchy explosiveness of “What’s My Name,” and the slower haze of “To Die For,” featuring L I O and Dane Amar, the album is held together by Mane’s smooth, laid-back delivery.
Following one infectious offering with another, the album sweeps from anthemic productions like “Bean Flow,” to the groovy style of “I Know You See My Message,” proving Mane’s versatility as the celebratory vibes are balanced out by existential and contemplative notes. Highlight “Jade On Me,” which leaves the heavier instrumentation behind for a more minimal arrangement, before the tight rhythms of final track “Sun Down,” has us hoping the party never ends.
Having worked on the project with producer Zuma since 2020, the album traces Chow Mane’s sonic growth, with new layers and subgenres finding its way into his artistry spanning cheeky and playful moments to melodic and sobering intricacies, all wrapped up within a diverse hip-hop soundscape.
