Electronic artist Blackbird Blackbird drops trippy and vibrant visuals for hazy number “Hey Lover,” with groovy yet soothing soundscape led by catchy beats and wispy vocals. The video created by comic book and video game creator Paloma Dawkins elevates the feel-good vibes of the track with mesmerizing and colorful creativity.
The gentle yet psychedelic track carries an encouraging message about letting go and moving on from unwanted memories of a past relationship, and Dawkin embodies this carefree feel with silly, hand-drawn animated character off on their own little journey.
The poppy sonics and immersive visuals for “Hey Lover” fill us with joy and empowerment to get past anything holding you back in life.
Speaking of the video, the Bay Area act says, “The 'Hey Lover' music video started off as a small collaboration between Paloma Dawkins and I on visuals, but Dawkins takes it to another galaxy entirely. The video is also edited in a way that captures both the moments in the song and the meaning of the lyrics—for instance when I’m singing 'I won’t hesitate to turn away, if I see you walk by,' Dawkins animates some eyes recognizing someone then looking away in annoyance.”
Filipino-American multi-instrumentalist and producer Mikey Maramag under the moniker of Blackbird Blackbird has crafted an artistry of psychedelic-tinged, downtempo folktronica that leaves feeling laid-back and energised all at once.
Now emerging from a two-year hiatus with “Hey Lover,” Maramag leaves in anticipation for a new, yet-to-be-titled album – this latest offering giving a glimpse of the infectious and inspirational feel we can expect from it.
