NYC duo Rebel Kicks have returned with a riveting new alt pop single. Entitled “Hamartia,” the track follows their seven song album Those Days shared earlier this year.
"Hamartia," details a relatable theme of knowing and understanding our greatest faults and trying to overcome them. Inspired by a Greek tragedy, the band further confides, "our song is about a person who is their own worst enemy. Someone who wants to be positive, but is inevitably dragged down by their own perceptions and paranoid beliefs, yet they're self-aware enough to recognize that as their fatal flaw, or literal hamartia."
The listener can hear this introspective and existential theme with lyrics including, "I've been lost inside a tragedy /so what's my flaw / wanting more." Musically, "Hamartia," is a sonically richly layered affair complete with swelling synths, bright guitars, chugging bass and warm vocals. Soaring melodies over pop rock landscapes that ebb and flow create a thrilling journey of sound.
Rebel Kicks are known for their stadium worthy pop meets rock songs in the vein of Twenty One Pilots and OneRepublic. Formed by brothers Anthony and Steven Babino, Rebel Kicks began releasing music in 2018 with their explosive political commentary track "Fall of the American Dream".
