Kaytranada sets old era ablaze with Twin Flame (VIDEO)

Kaytranada returns with a stripped-down, minimal yet aggressive banger bringing along friend and long-term collaborator Anderson Paak.

After countless teases at live shows and on Instagram, Kayranada has officially dropped “Twin Flame”, his first solo release since his Intimidated E.P from late last year. The accompanying video brings nothing special nor any lore to the track but brings with it beautiful visuals that match the “warehouse rave” anthem this song is going for.

Following a monochrome color scheme finding Kaytranada in his natural habitat and a whimsical Paak channeling his inner Andre 3000 with the Bob and outfit. “Twin Flame” brings with it every aspect that fans can come to expect from a Kaytranada song and more. It follows the same formula that the Montreal producer has been following for years now, and it still hasn’t gotten stale.

The song itself is an easy listen. Providing a calm yet abrasive rhythm that warrants a head bobbing with the Anderson vocals gliding over so peacefully. Despite the slower tempo for the drums, this song ain’t no sleeper.

“Twin Flame” gradually builds on top of the beat, introducing little elements with the vocals and sampled guitar rifts every so often to progress the track.

The sampled guitar is an amazing addition to the track, performing beyond the means of a sample. One moment we hear the occasional rift, the next a solo is getting played and extended through the final act of the song, winding, and morphing, completely changing the nature of the instrumental.

Paak is an exciting feature present, with their last officially released collaboration being the stand-out track “GLOWED UP” on 2016’s 99.9%

Paak’s vocals are perfect for the groove, working well ith the instrumental without taking away the main focus or stealing the spotlight, providing harmonies along with the chorus that fuses with the beat, becoming an instrument in the process.

From the vocals to the supplemented samples that progress in tandem with the instrumental, every element keeps the track from becoming repetitive, resulting in a song that can be played over and over again with no issue.
