Flying Lotus sets the stage for a pair of Devin Tracy performances on "The Room " and "You Don't Know"

Fresh off his recent release, "They Call Me Magic", the theme to AppleTV's Magic Johnson documentary, as well as announcing his plans to direct and score the sci-fi horror film Ash, and penning a deal with XYZ Films and Logical Pictures, Flying Lotus lays a production platform for  Devin Tracy's cabaret show swooning on "The Room" and "You Don't Know." The tracks follow Lotus' recent pair of Grammy nominations and a win for Best Progressive R&B Album, for his contributions to Thundercat's It Is What It Is. The record came about from an instant connection made between the two during the YASUKE sessions- a show currently airing on Netflix, executively produced and scored by Flying Lotus.

"The Room" opens with understated, daunting swells and pensive, Latin-inspired bass play, giving way into Tracy's vocal interpretation. Smoky but kinetic, the track straddles lamentations and daydreams. Lyrically, Tracy finds himself left with little, rehashing a lost love in reframes like, "you tear me apart." Still though, it's a bit ambiguous- ultimately closing with a constellation of sparkling piano keys.

"You Don't Know" is brighter by comparison. Its sun-bleached opening tones invite a more caffeinated listen, but retain the same level of immersion and world-building production quality. The polarity seen in these two tracks highlight the vocal flexibility of Tracy as his soft, breezy performance is a stark left turn from the late-night brood seen in "The Room." He finds a kite to sail on, riding above an active percussion section.

Flying Lotus is looking to the future, both in his aspirations to continue into the world of film and production and musical endeavors. He looks to headline The Hollywood Bowl with support from The Bowl Orchestra on August 21st. Stay up to date with his socials via the links below.

"The Room" and "You Don't Know" are available now on Warp Records.
