Hip-hop girl group NADUH combines melodic vocals and hard-hitting bars to create a unique genre-splitting sound for their latest release, “ON VENUS.” Describing the track as a Spice Girls and Warren G mashup, the group effortlessly creates a funky summer anthem. The accompanying music video follows the group around their home city of Vancouver for a laid-back day exploring local hotspots.
“ON VENUS,” has an atmospheric beat with ample bass and synths. The chorus samples Spice Girls’ “Wannabe,” hook with a g-funk inspired twist. The group harmonizes, “Reppin' venus over penis ‘til we sleepin' six feet below.” The lyrics are heavily rooted in femininity, sisterhood, and friendship. Each verse has a satisfying juxtaposition, blending delicate vocals with authoritative rhymes. The otherworldly track has a retro beat with a pop undertone yet the lyricism has the boastful candor of rap.
Gearing up for the release of their debut EP, HOMIESEXUAL, NADUH hopes to continue to highlight their strong bond with one another and challenge social norms. They describe, “We’re very intentional about wanting to have the communication we have and re-writing narratives around female collaboration.” NADUH is ahead of their time, pushing the boundaries of conventional hip-hop/R&B.
