NOT THE MAIN CHARACTERS just released their new song "lava," a concept song about the dark side of fame.
"lava" is the kind of song that sneaks up on you; its surface is a shimmering melody that disguises the darker underbelly. Its heart-beat rhythm is the undercurrent of the track, driving it forward.
Their haunting vocals add to the drama as they allude to the danger of celebrity status. With lyrics like "I swear / the media broke Britney / don't post my death on TM," NTMC doesn't hold back. Even as new artists, they're aware of the treatment of young women in music, the walking on eggshells, being put under a microscope.
They said in a recent press release, "It was a fun thought experiment imagining ourselves dealing with that level of scrutiny. Despite the song being about the entertainment industry specifically, it's also very applicable to everyday social settings."
NTMC was born on the internet. The three members, Gabi Gotts, Perrin Xthona, and Tammy Gonzalez, wrote their first single, "bev hills" via zoom during the 2020 quarantine—so it's fitting that the group has developed a cyber aesthetic. "lava" is the second single lifted off the group's forthcoming debut EP BAD THINGS COME IN 3'S out May 20th
