Julian Kerins is a singer and guitarist from New York whose new single "Varlet" dives into anxiety in love and the uncertainty of having hope in it. Bolstered by a rich guitar arrangement and punchy drum grooves, Kerins delivers a soul-gripping performance that captures the true essence of his emotional pains. Listeners can feel his very atom ripping apart when he sings "Hope and love are phantoms./One hand crushes the other/ These limbs are children, my neurons their mother."
The record is a slow burn and gradually rises to a crescendo as Kerins commanding vocals come into play adding an urgent element to the overall feel of the song.
The accompanying video for "Varlet" (from the album To Solemn Maia) opens with a sense of anticipation as we see the main character try to make sense of what is happening around him. Helmed by director Tom Flynn, the visual is a blend of excellent visual effects, silhouetted performance shots of Kerins, and an uncanny tale of finding love in a strange dimension.
