Lisa Heller is a 25-year-old pop artist out of Los Angeles, and whilst she has amassed quite a lot of streams on her previous releases, it's her newest song "cheetos n coke" that people should be paying particular attention to, as it continues to showcase more of what she has to offer as an artist: an assortment of underlying, acoustic instrumentals that don't take away from her solid lyrical prowess in the way she is able to mix modern-day stories and personal inspirations into a tightly-tuned, delicate anthem about mental health.
Following on from the release of last year’s is anyone listening? EP, "cheetos n coke" not only captures a beautiful performance from the titular artist but the short two minutes and 20 second runtime of this song contains sweet-as-sugar melodies (pun intended) and endearing and inviting vocals, as this is a song that touches on the multifaceted aspects of mental health; through the lyrics, Heller explores the hidden emotions and trauma of crying, hiding, and not wanting to be in your own skin, akin to being somebody else.
Heller recorded the song in her bedroom in Los Angeles, which feels somewhat symbolic, because Heller has actually looked in the mirror herself, and dealt with negative body image. "I wrote the song when I mentioned I wanted to write a song about my previous struggles with an eating disorder," Heller says, "the common struggle amongst a lot of people, especially young women, with body image and body neutrality."
