Nigo, fashion designer and innovator, is soon to release I Know Nigo – his first solo album in over two decades. The opening single, "Arya" is featuring none other than A$AP Rocky.
The Japanese icon is coming off debuting his first Fall/Winter collection with KENZO as the new Artistic Director since the passing of founder, Kenzo Takada. There he not only unveiled the lively and '60s' formalwear of KENZO, but he decided to tease the music from the forthcoming album.
From what we know, the album will include features from Kid Cudi, Lil Uzi Vert, A$AP Rocky, Teriyaki Boyz, Pusha T, Tyler, the Creator, and most predictably, longtime collaborator and friend, Pharrell Williams. The fashion show also previewed not only songs from everyone listed above, but also vocals from the likes A$AP Ferg, Tierra Whack, Fam-Lay and the late Pop Smoke.
All announced contributors to the project all have pursuits of their own in the world of fashion and have a shared level of high taste of art whether that's clothing or jewelry. It's all evident in the trailer above released Tuesday evening for the forthcoming single. In the trailer, you witness Pharrell approach a grand piano and play the lightest, airy, melody. Then, it cuts to Lil Uzi and A$AP "Flacko" Rocky hanging with Nigo, trying on heavy "TESTING"-era jewelry, while rocking Human Made jackets.
His niche solo project that rarely gets recognition was 2000's Ape Sounds where he dipped his toe in producing and arranging his own sounds. He went on to DJ with his hip hop group, Teriyaki Boyz, to curate compilations, and to executive produce projects for a Japanese group that he founded, Billie Idle. Now, though he's been so busy with his sweeping endeavors in the fashion industry, the tastemaker finds time to put together an album with a group of artists and producers that – well, they "know him".
I Know Nigo's release date is yet to be announced.
