LA musician James Beasley, aka Maejis Mind, drops hypnotic self-titled EP, swirling with layers of groove and spontaneity. On the five-track production, the Philadelphia-born act delivers a smooth, atmospheric blend of pulsing guitars, woozy synths, and echoing vocals as he takes us through journey of overconfidence, self-doubt and acceptance.
Opening with the warm, psych-rock sensibilities of “What’s Worth It,” he establishes its haunting yet earworm quality right off the bat, before getting even stronger with the gentle but anthemic weave of his debut single “Dizzy, its haziness giving way to a soaring, jazz-tinged stand-out in the form of “Loner’s Jam.”
Following one highlight with another, the acoustic-led “Loner’s Jam” blends seamlessly into the transportive, synth-heavy warmth of “Back To Spot” as final track “Station” pulls out all stops in delivering punchy, lacerating rock sounds.
Crafting psychedelic productions led by a penchant for experimentation, Beasley’s music comes alive organically, built on him playing whatever comes to him at a given moment in his music-making process. Having made an enticing entry into music with his debut single in 2021, Maejis Mind continues to tap into his ability to draw us in and immerse us within his sonic space, as he invites himself into our hearts with his transportive collection of tracks.
