Emerging rapper/producer Will TOA brings something refreshing to the fore with his new six track project entitled Kumanada. The Canadian rapper goes back to his Ghanaian roots on this uniquely titled project, he merges Kumasi, a city in the Ashanti region of Ghana, and his birth country Canada. The EP's sound is varied as he delivers afro swing melodies, west coast flavor, emotional drill, and melodic storytelling throughout the project.
Kumanada opens up with "Pressure" which sets the tone with his bravado lyrics and smooth melodic runs layered over a mid-tempo, hypnotic bouncy backdrop. This is followed by "Cash Baby," a bass-heavy trap record that flexes on the haters with his string of successes. "Real Ones" makes use of a standard drill backdrop as its canvas and reflects on what true friendship is while keeping to his unique melodic style of rap. He goes into a more gloomy vibe on the dark "Pray" that dives into the current wave of violence in his hometown of Vancouver. The project closes out with "Likkle Man," a dancehall/afro swing fusion that is ripe with insightful lyrics and alluring harmonic vibes underpinned by his West African roots.
