The Sunshine State is the moniker of LA artist Skyler Stonestreet, and her music career had a rocky start. Stonestreet was diagnosed with breast cancer, causing her to pause music and focus on her health. Now that she’s recovered, she’s determined to use her artistry as a way to reach out to others in troubled times and inspire them to feel comfortable as themselves. Today, she shares with fans her lovely new love ballad, “Favorite Person.”

Fans of bands like Alvvays or Echosmith are bound to like this track. Stonestreet creates a warm, dreamy landscapes with a steady, energetic bass and a soft strumming guitar with some vibrant background effects. What’s really dreamy is her vocals, so sweet that they make you forget the melancholy of the lyrics. The track tells the brutal ruth of coming to terms with leaving a relationship. Stonestreet explained, "'Favorite Person' is two stories about essentially the same thing. […] The details and names are different, but it’s the same feeling, and it’s very hard to leave when the one thing you really want is the worst thing for you."

The Sunshine State is set to release new music leading to her debut EP in early 2022.
