Today, indie pop artist Dreamer Boy, aka Zach Taylor, and popstar BENEE have come together to release the newest track, “ARE YOU LETTING GO?” Lately, Dreamer Boy just finished touring and has been putting out singles. BENEE, on the other hand, blew up in 2020 with the earworm “Supalonely” off her debut album. Now, the two stars have found the time from their busy schedules and fame to create a beautiful track that feels like they were meant to make with each other.
Usually making sweet and warm productions, Dreamer Boy gets a little deeper in this tender track. From the start, there’s a sense of distance with the circling guitar melody and Taylor’s soft crooning. The slight autotuned and fuzzy vocals emphasize the heartbrokenness he sings about. BENEE’s part falls right into place with her distinct and soulful voice. Together, they create a bright and pulsing production of clashing guitars and synths.
Taylor said, “’ARE YOU LETTING GO?’ was written as a SOS or smoke signal to another person. I was very lost and feeling very far from someone I loved when I wrote this and sometimes the only communication you have with that person is not clear and leaves you hoping or longing. With this song,I wanted to express that unfamiliar and bewildering place of love, of not knowing, and the uncertainty of how the other person is feeling.”
