NYC-based artist Abby Diamond's single "Nice and Slow" is the third entry full in her moon series of singles, produced by, and co-written with close friend Max Vehuni of slenderbodies. The ethereal record oozes sultry femininity with its multi-layered dreamy textures and Diamond's earworm melodic performance. The record was birthed during a period of recurring insomnia triggered by personal loss, where Diamond found the inner strength to transform her turmoil into words of affirmation on wax. Vehuni did a madness with the production, from the warm inviting chords and sound design but that one element that caught me off guard was the boom-bap-drum groove used here. It's reminiscent of late 90s Gangstarr records crafted by DJ Premiere.
Abby Diamond is a multi-disciplinary artist who kicked off her career as a Jazz vocalist in New Orleans. She has ventured into different genres from soul to electronic and developed her producing and songwriting skills along the way. She is presently based in Brooklyn, New York and besides making music with her musical partner Max Vehuni, she also collaborates with other queer and fem-fronted musical acts, as well as artists in high-fashion, burlesque, drag, and sensual acrobatics.
