Maygen & The Birdwatcher's "Jigsaw" and the power of family

Minnesota based Americana meets roots rock duo Maygen & The Birdwatcher is composed of Maygen Lacey and Noah Neumann, who have masterfully combined elements from their wildly contrasting musical backgrounds to create a duality of sound with genre-bending effects.

Their all new single, “Jigsaw,” explores the importance of family and how we must accept and nurture each other’s individuality in an attempt to strengthen our bonds with the ones we love. Sparked by living under close quarters with family during the pandemic, lead singer Maygen confides, “the song is an honest look at the dynamics of what family life really is. I know MANY families that were entirely shook by the pandemic and the new found EXTRA EXTRA time with only the people under their roof. You’ve got a number of individual humans with all their own wants/needs/quirks/triggers all living in the same space. It can be a PUZZLE to figure out how to keep everyone feeling loved, valued and heard. It’s important to continually shift and shape your unique family into something that can thrive no matter what life throws at you."

Sonically, the song features warm vocals over a folk inspired melody complete with classic banjo, guitar, and fiddle for the ultimate rush of nostalgia and consolation. Thoughtful lyrics paint a picture of a family story that many of us know well, making the song entirely human and relatable.

Aside from Maygen and Noah, the duo has joined forces with former Sawtooth Brothers Ethan and Jesse Moravec on upright bass, mandolin, fiddle and vocal harmonies, and Nik Pellinen of Sawed Off String Band on banjo and lead guitar for an unprecedented listening experience. Thematically, Maygen & The Birdwatcher’s music explores engaging messages related to family, addiction, love, loss, and personal relationships. “Jigsaw” is a single from their full length album, Moonshine, which will be released this fall.

Listen to “Jigsaw” here for a gentle reminder to take great care of the ones you love.
