"LYS (Love Your Self)" is an R&B and soul collaboration between Toronto-based LatinX artist Mia Sanchez and fellow singer-songwriter Tasha Mac. The duo delivers a nostalgic and uplifting track that blends elements of '90s R&B and classic Hip-Hop with a modern twist. As the title suggests, the singers detail the essence of self-love and also send an empowering message to young women and girls out there to always find happiness within. This is not the usual "I don't need a man" type trope but rather in the vein of finding self-worth away from outside sources and to some degree far from a toxic relationship.
The duo's performance is reminiscent of their predecessors such as TLC, Brandy, and Monica with their deep and mesmerizing melodic undertones. Switching back and forth, listeners are drawn in with the duo's soothing harmonies and evocative lyrics and of course the retro-styled crisp production.
Mia Sanchez started out by creating her own songs at the age of eight with her dad on the guitar but she didn't release her debut single "FRIO" till late 2020. She is currently back in the lab working on more music and possibly a full-length project. Tasha Mac (or Tasha Mckenzie) also started out young but her first official release was in 2016 when she dropped the video for her single "Alone." She has one EP The Butterfly Effect to her name plus a number of singles.
