Brighton-based jazz and soul band Yakul is back with visuals for their previously released single "What Does It Feel Like?" The latest single saw the group dive into uncharted musical regions with gusto. The rousing production employs ear-grabbing spacey textures coupled with lead singer James Berkeley's solemn lyrics about being stuck in the same spot. While most of the off-kilter sound is a far cry from their live jazz repertoire, this latest offering injects a deeper soulful element.
The visuals by director Sam Morris explores themes of frustration, monotony, and a desperate need to break from the norm. It makes use of short performance shots with a focus of several individuals including the band members going through the emotions of being stuck like the proverbial hamster in a treadmill. The pacing is quite upbeat and while using deadpan facial expressions to reinforce the unvarying theme of the track.
"What Does It Feel Like?" is the first visuals taken from their forthcoming debut album release Rise Indigo. Coming this October.
