Soul-meets-R&B artist Claire Reneé has an uncanny knack for connecting with listeners through her relatable lyrics, profiling everything from leaving toxic friendships to falling in love and connecting with the divine. In her latest single "Red Lights," she explores the act of taking time for ourselves and living in the moment.
Claire takes a spiritual approach to this practice, confiding, "it's about taking the time to slow down and sit with ourselves, sometimes even heeding to the signs from our own ancestors and spirit guides." The result is "Red Lights," a R&B number full of rich jazz textures including staccato piano, cinematic horns, and bright cymbal rides. It is the prolific songwriter's voice though, that steals the spotlight, gliding atop every note effortlessly, unrushed and confidently. Claire Reneé evokes great soul singers including Bill Withers and Erykah Badu, but with a modern essence.
According to the press release, the accompanying visuals show Claire hanging out in one of her favorite places to find solace – a neighborhood bookstore. Directed by Dean Singleton, the red-tinged visuals are nostalgic and inviting.
"Red Lights" is off of Claire Reneé's full length Wings, a nine-track album that fuses neo-soul, jazz, R&B and pop. The singer/songwriter is also a professionally trained dancer and health advocate.
