Organic and raw, Scott McKeon unleashes a riveting guitar-driven album, New Morning. Recorded live in the studio at RAK in London, the offering captures the spirited spontaneity of those sessions. The talent has performed with greats like Lana Del Rey, Gary Clarke Jr and Van Morrison and you can hear his masterful abilities shine throughout. New Morning was produced by Paul Stacey (Black Crowes/Oasis) and features Jeremy Stacey (Sheryl Crow/Tal Wilkenfield) on drums, Rocco Palladino (Tom Misch/ D'Angelo) on bass and Gavin Conder (Rufus Black/The Kondoors) as vocalist on several tracks.
Commencing with “Fight No More” this energetic tune kicks things off with a bang. From McKeon’s intricate guitat riffs to the penetrating percussion, this funk-infused track packs a powerful punch. As Conder’s rich vocals sing of ending a tumultuous battle, listeners are hooked in by the deeply passionate quality.
“Third Eye Witness” is a gentle song seducing listeners with a bold rock flavor. With smooth soundscapes and warm vocals, the electrifying track grips you with a dynamic and driving sound. Scott shares of the track, “The original idea was quite influenced by Sly Stone and had a funky thing about it, but when we came to record it with Gavin Conder’s (vocalist) vocals, it ended up having a sort of indie/alternative feel to it, almost something like Kurt Vile/War On Drugs.”
Ending with the lush stylings of “Take Me Back”, this swampy soundscape captivates the listener with an unvarnished feel. The tune’s raspy vocals soaring atop gritty instrumentation create a pure celebration of sound. It is the ideal end to an enriching release.
