Veteran UK DJ and producer Mark Ski is still wrecking dancefloors on the wheels of steel as he teams up with Harlem-based MC Emma Lee in this heavy classic rap jam titled "Nitty Gritty." The track has a classic boom-bap structure a la Dj Premier, Pete Rock, and is ripe with booming dusty drums, cinematic strings, and anthemic horns to match Lee's ferocious rhyming. Lee is new to me but it's clear she's an OG of the game with the way she attacks this bouncy production and the masterful mix of insightful and bravado elements carefully inserted into every bar.
Ski and Emma Lee connected after he heard her single "Dear Corona" and the two proceeded to share ideas about working on a wrong and the result is "Nitty Gritty." Mark Ski is a man of many hats and besides producing he is also the host of a weekly radio show Funk by Funk.
