Taking the adversities of 2020 in their stride, Northampton-based alt-pop four-piece Sarpa Salpa maintain their hot streak of colourfully effervescent singles with their emphatic opening salvo for the year, "Another Life."
As the neon-tinted opening synths dissolve into the sublimely grooving verse, it becomes undeniably clear that they've maintained their irrefutable synergy, despite being kept apart for much of the year. Once those chords return for the intoxicating chorus, their naturally nostalgic quality perfectly intertwines with frontman Marcus Marooth's sharply expressive vocals.
Speaking to the lyricism behind his performance, Marooth shares in an email statement that, “Another life tackles the idea of being completely head over heels in love with somebody, devoting everything to them. However, despite the warning signs, you cannot bring yourself to admit that your love is unrequited, your optimism outweighing what you know – that you’ll never quite have the love you’re giving reciprocated.”
Now with three singles under their belt beyond their debut EP last year, there's no doubt more to come from the Sarpa Salpa camp quite soon.
