Growing up in LA, Halo Kitsch knew she wanted to be an artist when she started she started playing the piano at two-years-old. So, when after three years in college, she knew it wasn’t the right fit for her. Since then, she’s dropped out, working her way to pay for studio sessions and becoming the artist she always dreamed of becoming. Today, she’s releasing her fifth single, proving that her hard work has paid off.

The whistles and slow strummed acoustic guitar that open up “Do You Feel Like a Sinner Yet?” give off vibes from a classic Western film. It evokes the images of the desert and feelings of isolation. The finger snaps that come in later help bridge into the jazz/pop genre, leading into the surprising bridge as it breaks through with a shredding electric guitar. The final verse has Kitsch shifting her vocals from sultry whispers to deep howls until the track cycles back to the beginning.

In “Do You Feel Like a Sinner Yet?”, Kitsch asks this question to both herself and a past lover. Rather than just blame for her ex for an abusive relationship, she reflects on how staying in the relationship was also a form of self-harm. Halo explained, “Through the exploration of self-discovery, I finally found vocabulary that defined the contagious toxicity of a co-dependent love trap. With the same pain it takes to grow, I reflected on the cyclical nature of what felt like sinking rock bottom.”

“Do You Feel Like a Sinner Yet?” just goes to show how Kitsch’s self-reflectivity and empathy goes deeper than most. That’s a quality one can admire in an artist as her future music will have the same open mindset and compassion.
