In keeping with her debut single "Closing Time at the Gates" from February 2020, Alicia Clara again brings all the 90s shoegaze vibes in her latest single 'Five' taken from her forthcoming EP Outsider/Unusual out on Montreal label Hot Tramp early 2021.
"Five" opens with soft plucked guitar and Clara's warm vocals that feel part Cocteau Twins and part Weyes Blood. The track is comfortable somewhere between the inviting comfort of nostalgia and the yearning for a different time, whether that be the future or past. Lyrically the track explores the anguish of failed relationships, with Clara noting how the track "is a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy about having finally forgiven past hurt, all the while still being unable to let myself feel anything out of fear of getting hurt again."
Finding vulnerability and tender reflection in "Five", be sure to check out Clara's forthcoming EP Outsider/Unusual via Hot Tramp for more nostalgia packed pop.
