P*nut taps newcomer IZA for the ethereal trip-hop cut "Imagine"

Based between London and Berlin, producer, songwriter and artist P*nut has spent the past twenty years working predominantly behind the scenes. In that time he's worked with artists at the start of their creative journey, all the way up to the likes of era defining artists Faithless, Amy Winehouse and Santana to name but a few. A relentless creative, his solo work has taken somewhat of a backseat in lieu of focussing on these bigger projects, but as this year has allowed much of us ample time to look inward, P*nut has also repositioned his focus back to his own creative works.

With five tracks under his belt in the past handful of months alone, he keeps the fire burning with "Imagine," which also introduces us to IZA, a Swedish singer-songwriter and newcomer who adds an ethereal, Björk-esque touch to the track.

Introducing and maintaining throughout the track is a reversed key melody that at first comes across as quite cut and dry, but once IZA's icy reverb-soaked vocal sweeps in and the textures compound around it, it counterbalances and garners an enveloping and hypnotic quality. Simplistic in its arrangement yet masterful in its execution, a dusty sampled drum kit and bass completes the production, with merely a subtle change of textures and rhythms bridging the gap between each section. The result is something truly unique, a compelling fusion of the dreamier shades of pop and trip-hop, which is completely offset against the trendy sounds that dominate playlists far and wide.

"Imagine" is available now via 5am.
