South London alt-pop duo PELA arrive with their fourth single of the year “In the Young.” Coated with melodious electronics and ornate piano sequences, the self-reflective single is a warm slice of pure nostalgia.
PELA is comprised Hannah Coombes and Olly Shelton. Together they create an assortment of lush sonic cadences with moments of contemplating one’s own image in the invisible mirror we call life. With “In the Young,” Coombes’ euphonious vocals spark utter beauty and profound sincerity. The production anchored by Shelton is an enthralling blend of mild electronica and honeyed inflections. Lyrically, “In the Young” leans on a more mature theme as the duo demonstrate great advances within their songwriting. Narratively, “In the Young” feels like a walk down memory lane as listeners will contemplate the days where they felt their youngest.
“‘In the Young’ represents a collective yearning for a shift," the duo shared over email. "It is about connected experiences, and about human love. It’s about the simplicity of small moments and the gravity of big ones.”
“In the Young” follows 2020 singles “Reverie,” “South Of” and “You Got Me.” PELA plans to release more songs throughout the year.
