Few countries have a more rich musical tradition than Brazil, with generations of artists having graced the world with their unique and irresistible musicality and spirit. While the forebears of the region like Milton Nascimento, Joyce, and Azymuth have gained international acclaim, a new wave of younger artists are ready to carry the torch. One such artist is the Rio De Janeiro-based Ricardo Richaid, whose new album Travesseiro Feliz, recently released on Far Out Recordings, sets a new precedent for the possibilities of Brazilian music within a global musical context. Today on EARMILK, he is premiering a new video for the gorgeously melancholy track “Só na Darkzera.”

Having worked behind the scenes with artists like those mentioned above, Richaid has taken inspiration from his country’s musical heritage and combined it with his masterful skills behind the board to deliver a unique sonic style that he describes as “industrial tropicalism.” “Só na Darkzera” offers a proper representation of Richaid’s sound with his warm guitar arpeggios and some vocal lines from Nayana Carvalho, all while containing a haunting overlying tone aided by percussionist Marco Suzano.

The video, directed by Marcus Forster, follows suit with impressionistic shots and quick edits that results in an impactful, honest view into modern day Brazil. With astounding musical skills on display and Forster’s aptly moody video for “Só na Darkzera,” Ricardo Richaid proves that he will certainly be part of the movement that takes Brazilian music culture into the future.

Travesseiro Feliz is available to stream or download here.
