Salt Lake City-based band Choir Boy had everyone deep in their feelings following the release of their well-received debut Passive With Desire. Garnering comparisons to new wave classics like Kate Bush, Talk Talk, Cleaners From Venus, and Morrissey, Choir Boy brings that authentic 80s and 90s ethos with ease. Led by singer/songwriter Adam Klopp, the band compliments his angelic lamentation with all the hazy pop nostalgia and post-punk tendencies that fans of the genre need. This year will see the release of Choir Boy's sophomore album. With that news comes the first taste of the album, a track called "Complainer."
Known for their somber and melancholy tunes, "Complainer" contrasts those tendencies with more of an upbeat and positive air. It's a track that sort of pokes fun at how sad Choir Boy can be while still clinging onto the band's inherent knack for new wave. As Klopp sings out, "But it's not that bad, I've never really had it worse. I'm just a complainer," the lyrical message together with the carefree spirit of the track will have you dancing and bopping along right from the start. It serves as a reminder to be a little optimistic every now and then. “Complainer” will be released as part of Choir Boy’s forthcoming album Gathering Swans, set to release May 8th via Dais Records.
