Los Angeles-based singer songwriter Katie Iannitello, better known as Beauty Queen, has followed up her 2019 debut EP with the new track "Sweet Memory" and an accompanying video. The production by Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley of the acclaimed indie pop band Tennis elevates Iannitello's already captivating, polished sound to another level. Iannitello's sweet, sportive voice feels strikingly similar to Moore's, and are a perfect match for the glittering 80s-style instrumentals that will be easily recognizable to Tennis fans.
The song was inspired by Iannitello's long walks home from work during her time living in San Francisco, wondering about the people walking by her, she shared in a press release. The video for "Sweet Memory" was similarly inspired, involving "someone who you might meet and go out with…go home with, and be trapped on a terrible date." The video, whose grainy, retro visuals bring to mind a goofier version of a David Lynch movie, is a tale of boy meets girl gone weird. It's strange and well-executed, and this tongue-in-cheek creativity along with her considerable vocal ability make Beauty Queen an act to watch.
