One of the most formidable producers in house music, Todd Terry, is back with a bang with his latest release. Known for his blends of both Chicago and Detroit sounds, alongside elements of NY hip-hop, “Reaction” – released via Inhouse – is feel-good house music at its finest.
As a producer and DJ who has remained consistently active, “Reaction” is easily one of his most exciting projects in recent times. For those of us who haven’t been around as long as Terry has been producing, tracks like “Reaction” make it easy to understand how he was one of the DJs who kick-started the Acid House movements; the energy is completely different to much of what can be found at the moment.
Whilst Terry has enjoyed a lot of success in the mainstream media – who hasn’t heard his remix of “Missing” by Everything but the Girl? It’s iconic – his sound has always remained true to the underground, with this latest release being no different. Combining a jacking bassline with subtle use of vocals, and about as much energy as a house track can contain, listening to “Reaction” almost feels like taking a step back in time. In the best way possible of course. With the release containing both the original and an extended mix for those who like to let tracks play out for a bit longer, this release appeals to all. In a playing field which has become relatively over-saturated with mediocre work in recent times, Terry’s “Reaction” gives house music the step up it needs to get back onto the ladder.
