Kassa Overall is blazing new trails in music. The multi-talented Brooklyn artist has a new project on the way in 2020 via Brownswood Recordings and has delivered the first offering from the release with “I Know You See Me.” Overall’s impressively diverse skills are on full display on the new single as he covers drumming, emceeing, singing, and producing duties with powerful results. The song also features guest vocals from J Hoard and Melanie Charles, who fit seamlessly into Overall’s unique sonic universe.

With a patient pulse, splashy drum sounds, and a thumping bass line from BIGYUKI, Overall crafts a musical palette that is haunting and impactful while never sacrificing a sense of groove. The weighty instrumentals provide a fitting foundation for his words as he pens thoughtful lyrics about the African-American experience, social injustices, and mental health. Through the complex issues and understated delivery, he conveys a sense of perseverance with lines like, “The only way to climb is if you try and you fail / it was written in the mud, Lord, I will prevail.” With his insightful lyrics and stellar musicianship, “I Know You See Me” shows that Kassa Overall’s new work will definitely be a musical highlight in the New Year.
