Critically acclaimed Colombian pop star Lao Ra has returned with her first and only release of 2019, "Picaflor". Translated from Spanish, "Picaflor" means "hummingbird" and ff the climax of the music video is anything to go by, the journey of this single is everything but delicate as a hummingbird.
Following on from the release of Lao Ra's 2018 collaboration with Dillion Francis on "White Boi", "Picaflor" sees Lao Ra return to fine form with her brand new collaboration with recent Latin GRAMMY Award-winning Spanish rapper C. Tangana on this offering of smooth eclectic mix of reggae, pop and Colombian-inspired instrumental beats that Lao Ra's fans have been itching to hear again for almost twelve months.
On her new single, Lao Ra shared in a press release that "Picaflor offers a sultrier and more melancholic version of me. It’s a song about a hunter and a prey, where a hunter is hunted and where hummingbirds fly and flowers grow in the foreground of chaos. The song is a metaphor for a toxic relationship."
In what is essentially a short film of passion and love, Lao Ra continues to let her voice do the majority of the work, while C. Tangana's portion of the single reflects the juxtaposition of Lao Ra's dominance throughout. To coincide with the release of the single, Loa Ra has teamed up with director Hector Dockrill (Jorja Smith) and track producers DVLP (Eminem, J. Balvin, DJ Khaled) and Capi (J. Balvin, Dominic Fike, Lele Pons) on a hypnotic video that showcases a subverse offering of passionate Spanish lyrics and a whole lot of head-bopping flavour.
