AC Slater fuses the past with the present in his second studio album 'Hi8'

Los Angeles-based producer and Night Bass creator AC Slater delivers authentically raw bass house cuts in his newest studio album Hi8, paying homage to fidget, blog house and UK garage of the 2000s—whilst continuing to illuminate the core Night Bass sounds for which he's best known.

Hi8 effortlessly traverses the underground bass house scene with robust creations, a culmination of genres that range from garage to house to grime, an album that speaks of Slater's production prowess and evolution. The intro to Hi8 sets the narrative for the album, kicking off strong vibes with a follow from a Chris Lorenzo collaboration, "Bad Behaviour." Hi8 noticeably departs from bounce and grit in "Feeling Awake" featuring Gaby Feldman. On the heavy-hitting Jack Beats feature "Boss Like That," the producer intoxicates his listeners with reverberating, dark soundscapes—polishing the album with an ever-ascending finesse.

Alongside this prolific release, the producer has also unveiled visuals true to the album's name: they feature footage taken from AC Slater's personal Hi8 video collection from the skateboarding and raving days of his teenage years. The analogue footage helped inspire the album's aesthetic and sound. "I was watching all these old Hi8 tapes I've kept since I was 15 years old. Literally watching myself grow up over the course of 10 years thanks to this footage of me and my friends," the bass house maestro shares. "It made me think about evolution and how important it is to look back at what led you to where you are now. I dug deep into my musical inspirations and looked back at the artists that paved the way for us. I thought about how we have to take what they created and put our spin on it to pass down to the next wave of artists after us."

AC Slater has also recently announced a massive fall Australasia tour with stops in Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney, Newcastle and more—all ending with a Night Bass stage takeover at the idyllic Your Paradise festival in Fiji. Tickets available here.
