Whilst some producers bask in the limelight, others who prefer to live an ascetic life, growing and ascending the audial narrative in more subtle tendencies. Pfeiffer Records label head and producer Chris Simon is one of the latter, who now has shot forward from his recluse with the release of Arrowhead via Understated.
A culmination of three days of intense sessions leading up to his gig for Understated, Arrowhead is Simon's attempt to curate the vibe for his set even before delivering. The resulting work produced three sharp, tech-laced numbers befitting of the signature early morning warehouse sounds of the label. Opening track "For Real For Real" envelops its listeners in a melodic euphoria, tinged with surrealism and glittering vocal chops. "Arrowhead" follows with a darker twist, showcasing Simon's versatility in delivering bass and percussive elements. Finally, rounding off the EP is "Fear Itself"—a number that builds through breathy chops and snaking synth lines.
Usually locked in the studio, Chris Simon has begun to carve his niche in the world of house music. Since his EP on Waze & Odyssey's Street Tracks was debuted on BBC Radio One by Pete Tong late last year, the reclusive producer has started to open up his archives. Racking up forthcoming releases with new labels, as well as more with Street Tracks and Pfeiffer, 2019 will see the producer finally start to showcase his meticulously crafted house and techno.
