Having already seduced fans with a string of provocative singles under a pseudonym Mëi, singer-songwriter Ida Vallens returns with another thought-provoking single to match her somber and forlorn aesthetic. On her newest release "Mt. Whitney Motel", Ida lays down a haunting performance, supported by heavy lyrical content and layered softly over a bed of lightly played piano keys. The single slowly introduces an atmospheric trip-hop-style production, adding to the emotional energy of the release, which deals with real crime issues.
The track goes deep into some heavy content, particularly the disappearances and homicides among sex workers. Offering some insight into the track Ida shares with us, “The song ‘Mt Whitney Motel’ tells the story of an unidentified sex worker who has been murdered in her motel room. The song is about exploring the mind of the Jane Doe and the story behind her rather than focusing on the actual murder: her struggles with addiction, domestic abuse and her feelings of hopelessness.” While it's rare for artists to deliver real content that seems to fall more in political and news headlines, Ida is going there.
