Greece has always been a place of history, breathtaking scenery, and let's face it- good food. But rarely does it find itself at the helm of a musically inclined conversation. Until now. It's been two years since rising indie pop artist Σtella (Stella Chronopoulou) released new music, and this week she makes a triumphant return with her latest single "The Race".
Conceiving, directing, and even co-editing the video herself, Stella flaunts her diversity as an artist, and exceptional determination to stay true to a vision. Inspired by the city of Athens with its sports history coursing through the streets, Stella explains that "['The Race'] traces the pulse of this place. The blood-pumping thrill of the chase to get higher, faster, harder. And the desire to get far from it all: to escape, from yourself or with someone else."
Moving through shots of different athletes training all across the city, the song simply blends into the background, taking on the form of the spirit of the city itself, spurring these competitors on. The rhythmic beat intertwined with Stella's wispy vocals creates a hypnotizing effect, lulling you to an adrenaline filled stupor. A welcomed return, and a hot start to Stella's new run with Arbutus Records.
