With an infectious and ambitious dynamism surging through his tracks, San Francisco and Los Angeles based artist Wyatt Marshall is not one to disappoint. A rising fixture of the West Coast's electronic scene and a regular contributor to the infamous DIRTYBIRD label, Marshall has now joined Gruuv for a clean-cut compilation that showcases his deft production skills with ease, aptly titled This & That.
Opening with title track "This & That", Marshall engulfs us in resonant melodies excruciatingly otherworldly and yet all the more provocative. With a regimented percussion leading and warped vocals hooking listeners in, the American producer takes us on a sonic maze that fully reflects the essence of the track's namesake. Following, "Heat Stroke" ups the ante with a series of rich stabs, refined hi-hats and warped, murky synths for a slick, dance-worthy number. Amalgamating off-kilter melodies and crisp drum licks into one track titled "Transcendent", Marshall distills a number of progressive and acid influences down to marry its infectious female vocals for a truly alienating experience.
Included in This & That and closing off the package, is an official remix of "This & That" by fellow producer Chambray. Implementing dubbed out pads amongst brooding synths and robust kicks, Chambray showcases a more upbeat reimagining capable of holding its own against the original.
